Interview | An Interactive Session With Jos Plateau Fast Rising Gospel Artiste Dorcas Zum Bello

can we know you please, who is Dorcas?

Okay, The full name is Dorcas Zum Bello, from Kaduna State. I was born and brought up in Jos, Plateau State. I’m a graduate of Biochemistry, from Usmanu Danfodio University, Sokoto, currently working at the Plateau State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency. I’m a believer, a lover of God and I’m passionate about music.

Dorcas Zum Bello

wow so nice to know, so can you tell us what first got you into gospel music & Who inspired you to make music?

Well for me, I just grew up with music all around me. I come from a family were music is like a universal language that everyone speaks. It’s no wonder then that I developed strong interest in music from a very tender age.

Growing up, I was mostly in church, attending one children’s program or the other. This also gave me the opportunity to nurture and gradually develop that gift even more.

Wow that’s Awesome! How would you describe the music that you typically create & What is your creative process and calling like?

I wouldn’t say I have a particular genre of music as my specialty, I just love good music and God has been really helpful in my music creation.
I’m not a professional gospel artist though, I just love to worship God through that medium because that’s the best medium for me.

My creativity in music comes in diverse ways. Sometimes I produce a rhythm while playing the keyboard and then the words follow later. Other times, I get inspired to write maybe due to an experience. So you would see me writing down lyrics without a rhythm and later on the rhythm comes. Some other times I could be in the middle of an intense worship session and God just drops a new song on my lips.

But most importantly, I get inspired through dreams. There are times I wake up in the middle of the night and you find me sleepily recording a sound that God has dropped in my heart through a dream. When I wake up, I work on it and develop it.

Basically those are the major ways I get inspired to create music.

What would you be doing right now, if it wasn’t for your gospel music career or ministry?

Well like I said earlier, I’m not a professional gospel music artist. I’m still trying to find my footing to be sincere.

I’m currently working and also into business.

How many songs have u recorded so far and Which Kaduna or Nigerian gospel artiste would you like to do a collaboration with in the near future??

I haven’t recorded a lot of songs yet to be released out, although I have written so many. I have only recorded about five, and so you can anticipate a lots of songs and talking about who i love to sing along with are the likes of Minister Nathaniel Bassey or Minstrel Victoria Orenze I believe that would be a dream come true.

Any challenges you face as an upcoming female artiste from the north that’s doesn’t appreciate your gender doing music??

No not at all. Well not for me though

What is next for you? Any new music for your fans & what would you like to tell your fans??

I’m trusting God to work on some of my songs and release them soonest. I’m grateful for this platform and I believe you all will be hearing from me soon.
